Custom Pergola Design and Installation
A well-designed pergola becomes the difference between an outdoor area that sits empty most of the year and a space where your family actually wants to spend time. We’ve built pergolas for families tired of their expensive outdoor furniture fading in the sun, for empty nesters who wanted the perfect spot for weekend lunches with the grandkids, and for young professionals who dreamed of hosting dinner parties under the stars.
We create attached pergolas that connect directly to your home, creating seamless flow from your indoor living space to the outdoors. Freestanding pergolas give you flexibility when the best entertaining spot isn’t right next to the house. Pool pergolas are designed specifically for wet environments with proper drainage and chlorine-resistant materials. And for homes on slopes, our multi-level deck pergolas integrate with existing structures while taking full advantage of your property’s elevation and views.
Roofing options matter more than most people think. Open beam traditional designs provide that beautiful dappled shade everyone loves. Polycarbonate roofing gives full weather protection while letting natural light through. Shade cloth integration offers flexible UV blocking that can be adjusted seasonally. We can even design pergolas ready for climbing plants that create natural shade.
We work primarily with hardwoods like spotted gum, blackbutt, and merbau for timber pergolas. These species naturally resist rot and termites – which matters when you’re building in coastal environments. Every piece gets properly treated and sealed, and we use marine-grade stainless steel hardware throughout.

Carport Solutions That Protect Your Investment
Your car probably cost you anywhere from twenty to sixty thousand dollars, maybe more. So why leave it sitting out in the elements day after day, getting hammered by UV rays and hailstones? A quality carport pays for itself over time through reduced paint fading, interior damage, and those annoying little dings that seem to appear from nowhere.
Single carports work perfectly for properties where space is tight or you only need to cover one vehicle. They’re also great for protecting motorcycles, boats on trailers, or creating covered workshop space. Double carports give you coverage for two vehicles plus extra space for storage or outdoor equipment – and we make sure the width accommodates modern SUVs and utes, not the smaller sedans from thirty years ago.
Attached carports connect directly to your home with roofline angles that flow naturally from your existing roof. Done right, an attached carport looks like it was always part of the original house design. Freestanding carports give you flexibility in placement while still providing all the protection benefits.
We offer skillion roof designs that are simple and cost-effective with excellent water runoff. Gable roof carports match traditional home styles beautifully. Flat roof carports suit contemporary architecture. And cantilever carports maximise usable space without requiring posts on both sides.
Every carport we build includes proper concrete footings sized for coastal wind loads, galvanised steel framing with quality protective coatings, and marine-grade fasteners that won’t rust out.

Traditional Timber Pergola Installation
There’s something about a properly built timber pergola that can’t be replicated with steel or aluminium. Maybe it’s the warmth of natural wood grain, the way timber ages and develops character over time, or just that classic Australian outdoor aesthetic. Whatever it is, timber pergolas remain one of our most requested services.
Building timber pergolas in a coastal environment isn’t as simple as cutting some posts and beams and screwing them together. The timber species you choose, the joinery methods you use, the treatments you apply – these decisions determine whether you end up with a structure that lasts decades or one that’s rotting within five years.
Spotted gum is our go-to recommendation – incredibly durable, naturally resistant to termites and rot, with beautiful honey-brown colour that darkens to rich grey over time. Blackbutt is another excellent hardwood that’s exceptionally strong, meaning we can sometimes use slightly smaller beam sizes. Merbau delivers that rich, dark timber look right from the start and is highly resistant to decay.
We use traditional joinery techniques like mortise and tenon joints and notched beam connections. These create structures that are genuinely stronger and look infinitely better than modern bolt-together construction. We’re still using stainless steel bolts to reinforce joints, but the traditional joinery does real structural work.
Every structure gets properly engineered for beam spans, post spacing, and load requirements. With quality hardwood timber, proper construction methods, and reasonable maintenance, you’re looking at 30-50 years of life, often longer.

Our Design and Construction Process
Most outdoor structure projects go wrong when someone hires the first builder who gives them a cheap quote, then discovers halfway through that the design doesn’t work, council won’t approve it, or the builder cuts corners. We’ve been called in to fix plenty of those situations – which always costs more than doing it right the first time.
Our process starts with a free consultation at your property. We look at your layout, sun angles, existing structures, access conditions, and talk through how you actually want to use the space. We’re honest about what’s going to work and what won’t – you’ll know during this first conversation, not three months later.
Then we develop detailed design options with proper scaled drawings showing exactly what the finished structure will look like and where it’ll sit. For larger projects, we provide 3D visualisations. We’ll show you material samples and help you make decisions that match your budget and performance requirements.
Once the design is finalised, we handle all the structural engineering and council approval paperwork. Most applications take 3-6 weeks for council to process, and we keep you updated throughout.
Construction timelines vary – simple carports or small pergolas usually take 3-5 days, medium pergolas about 1-2 weeks, large custom timber pergolas 2-3 weeks. Throughout construction, you’ll have a single point of contact managing everything.
Every structure comes with comprehensive warranty coverage – 5 years on workmanship, 10 years on major structural elements, plus manufacturer warranties on materials.
Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on the size, location, and specifics of your project. We always verify with council for your specific situation rather than making assumptions. The good news is we handle all the approval paperwork if it’s required.
The range is huge depending on what you’re after. Size, materials, features, site access, and complexity all affect pricing. We provide detailed quotes after the initial consultation so you know exactly what you’re looking at before making decisions.
With quality hardwood timber, proper construction, and reasonable maintenance, you’re looking at 30-50 years easily, often longer. The key factors are using timber species that resist rot naturally, proper treatment, good drainage around posts, and periodic maintenance.
Absolutely. We work with your home’s existing roofline angles, match or complement your exterior materials and colours, and design proportions that suit your property’s scale. A new outdoor structure should look like it belongs, not like something generic bolted on as an afterthought.
Steel-framed carports need minimal maintenance – mostly keeping gutters clear. Timber pergolas need more attention, particularly reapplying protective oil every 2-3 years if you want to maintain the fresh timber appearance. Shade cloth eventually needs replacing after 10-15 years.
